A 37-year-old man seriously injured himself on Saturday night after falling three stories while attempting to retrieve a young girl's bag which had become stuck in an escalator at a Modi'in mall.

Shfela District police arrived at Modi'in's Azrieli mall, where the incident occurred, and opened an investigation into the accident.

Magen David Adom emergency services spokesman for the Ayalon area, Ro'i Kobi, said paramedics rushed the man for treatment to Tel Hashomer's Sheba Hospital, where he was subsequently placed in the trauma unit.

Medical personnel brought the 37-year-old to the hospital while he was under artificial respiration and suffering from internal and head injuries.

The Azrieli mall in Modi'in opened its doors just three weeks ago.
