Athletics / Injuries plague star athletes By Rami Hipsh Sprinter Irina Lansky limps off track with torn ligament The second and final day of the Israeli Athletics Championship produced a series of mediocre results and was plagued by injuries. Israel's star pole-vaulter Alexander Averbuch did not participate yesterday because of pains in his knee. The athlete, who is preparing for his third Olympiad, was given pain killers but decided to withdraw from the competition. Meanwhile, sprinter Irena Lansky limped off the track with pains in her knee, forfeiting her slim chance of qualifying for the Olympics. Lansky, who was crying and in visible pain, was rushed to hospital for treatment. Doctors suspect she may have torn a ligament. Advertisement Disappointment at the tourney continued when high jumper Maayan Forman only managed to clear 1.78. "It wasn't my day today," Foreman said later. "The weather was bad, the surface bad, but I can clear 1.88 meters and qualify for the Olympics." In the long jump, Yohai Halevi took first place after jumping 7.50 meters.
