The International Tennis Federation yesterday gave Tzipi Obziler the green light to play on Israel's doubles team in the Beijing Olympics. The 35-year-old will team up with Shahar Peer, following a recommendation by the Israel Tennis Federation. "I'm thrilled," said Obziler. "Until the last moment I didn't know if I'd go or not. I tried not to think about it too much and raise expectations." Obziler said she has two upcoming tournaments before returning to Israel to prepare. "I prepared in similar fashion for the Fed Cup matches, and plan to show up in Beijing in good shape." (Rami Hipsh)

Gilboa-Galil signed guard Guni Izraeli to a two-year contract worth an estimated $90,000 per season. Izraeli, who played for Hapoel Holon last year, thus returns to the area where he played for the original Gilboa-Afula team. Galil released Yogev Ohayon to Ironi Nahariya for $70,000 compensation. Ohayon signed a two-year deal with Nahariya. Bnei Hasharon signed Kent State graduate Haminn Quaintance to a two-year contract. Quaintance, a two-meter tall forward, averaged 10 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals last year en route to being named MAC defensive player of the year. He will replace Jason Williams, who left for Maccabi Tel Aviv. (Arie Livnat)
