Family of Jerusalem terrorist says he had no militant sympathies

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Defense Minister Ehud Barak both support demolishing the family home of the East Jerusalem resident whose bulldozer rampage killed three people in downtown Jerusalem on Wednesday.

But relatives and friends of the 29-year-old father of two from the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Zur Baher insist he was a normal man without militant sympathies.

The demolition of suicide bombers' homes in the West Bank is carried out routinely. But the status of East Jerusalem is a bit more complicated - it was annexed to Israel following the 1967 Six-Day War, and though Palestinian residents of the city are not citizens, Israeli law is applied there.
