Israeli tennis pair Andy Ram and Yoni Erlich on Monday advanced to the quarterfinal stage of the men's doubles at Wimbledon for the first time in their career.

Ram and Erlich made a remarkable comeback after trailing two sets behind French pair Julien Benneteau and Nicolas Mahut, seeded 19. The third-seeded Israelis triumphed at the end of the five-set match 4:6, 6:7, 7:6, 6:3, 6:4.

Meanwhile, Shahar Peer, who shocked Dinara Safina in the women's singles on Saturday to slide into the fourth round at Wimbledon, was ousted Monday after losing to fifth-seed Elena Dementieva from Russia 2:6, 1:6.

The Russian broke the Israeli's serve to snatch the first point of the match, and from there went on to win the entire set after Peer failed to recover. Peer opened the second set in full swing by breaking Dementieva's serve, but the Russian soon regained her strength and briskly sealed the match.

However, Peer can take comfort in the fact that she is not out of the tournament yet, after winning her fourth round doubles match with Belarusian partner Victoria Azarenka, by beating Safina and Agnes Szavay 7:5, 6:4.
