Last update - 19:16 30/06/2008 Forgotten boy becomes a Ben Gurion Airport security breach By Zohar Blumenkranz Tags: Ben-Gurion Aiport  A 10-year-old boy traveling with a group of children en route to Copenhagen was left stranded at Ben-Gurion International Airport on Sunday, and his suitcases were not taken off the flight in accordance with security regulations. The incident occurred after Laufer Aviation-GHI, which was responsible for the group's ground services, failed to notice that not all of the children had boarded the plane. Only after the plane departed, did ground staff find the boy alone at the airport. Staff asked the child which flight he was supposed to be taking and understood that he was due to take a flight that had already left. Personnel rushed to call the boy's father and inform him of the situation. Several hours later, the boy boarded a British Airways flight to Copenhagen. Advertisement Apparently a careless count of boarding tickets and passengers did not reveal the missing child until after the flight took off, and the child's unaccompanied luggage remained on the plane. Ben-Gurion airport authorities are treating the incident as an extremely serious security breach. According to regulations, airplanes do not take off from Ben-Gurion Airport if there is a discrepancy between the number of travelers aboard the plane and the number of boarding passes. In this instance, the baggage of the missing passenger would be located and the plane delayed until the suitcase had been offloaded. The airport authorities commented that "they view this as a serious episode stemming from a fault by ground staff. The incident is not the responsibility of the airport authorities but the responsibility of the ground staff." Laufer-GHI declined to comment.
