Last update - 17:01 30/06/2008 Labor MK Danny Yatom slams government, resigns from politics By Shahar Ilan, Haaretz Correspondent Tags: Knesset, Danny Yatom, Labor Labor Party member Danny Yatom announced his resignation Monday from the Knesset and from Israeli politics after more than five years as an MK. The former head of the intelligence agency Mossad announced his resignation at a meeting of the Labor Party faction, explaining that the motivation behind his decision was his lack of confidence in a government that had turned survival into an ideology. "I am not willing to be part of a political reality in which basic values are trampled upon, such as leading by example, ethics, and integrity," Yatom said. Advertisement Yatom was one of four Labor Party members to openly voice opposition to the stance of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert over the last year, together with Labor faction whip Eitan Cabel, Knesset Internal Affairs Committee Chairman Ophir Pines-Paz and MK Shelly Yachimovitch. Leon Litinski, the member of Labor who will replace Yatom in the Knesset, will be an official representative of the Russian immigrant community, the first MK to fill this spot in five years.
