Police arrest man whose twin impersonated him to flee arrest
By Roni Singer-Heruti, Haaretz Correspondent
Tags: Ben Gurion Airport, Israel

Tel Aviv police on Wednesday arrested a man whose twin brother impersonated him in order to flee the country after being convicted of raping his mother-in-law and children.

The suspect, who was convicted of six different accounts of rape and sexual assault, was under house arrest at the time of his escape. He was due to be sentenced in the next few days.

The suspect had been authorized to leave his home for a few hours for the purpose of legal proceedings. When he did not return at the scheduled time, the company that monitors his electronic tagging notified police.

When it became clear that the suspect had apparently boarded a plane using his twin's identity, police arrested the brother on suspicion of providing the passport and enabling the suspect's escape.
