Shin Bet: Terror activity, arms smuggling stepped up in Gaza
By Barak Ravid, Haaretz Correspondent and Haaretz Service

Diskin addressed the Egypt-brokered cease fire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, which went into effect Thursday morning, saying that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his Fatah movement supported the deal, but "felt that they had received the short end of the deal and exchanged hushed messages about it."

Diskin added that two major terror attacks were in the works on the eve of the cease-fire.

On June 22, Hamas planned to drive two booby-trapped vehicles into Israel through a hole in the fence to have been made by an armored tractor. One of the booby-trapped vehicles exploded in a Hamas operative's home.

There was also intelligence regarding a complex terror attack, to have been carried out by Army of Islam, which was planned and authorized by Hamas. "We attacked the operatives on an intelligence alert and the bombing was foiled," Diskin said.
