Israeli hiker missing in China after falling off cliff during trek

Omri Kidron, a 23-year-old Israeli hiker from Hod Hasharon, went missing on Saturday after falling off a cliff during a trek in the Hunan region of China. The insurance company immediately summoned a search and rescue team to comb the area.

An Israeli rescue team was to head to China Saturday evening to join in the search.

On Friday, a resident of southern Israel was killed while sky diving in Russia. His family was notified of his death.

The 42-year-old father of three traveled to Russia with his sky-diving aficionado friends for the express purpose of indulging his hobby.

Haaretz has learned that the man collided with another sky diver in midair and received a blow to the face from the other man's knee. Despite his injuries, he managed to open his parachute and it appeared for a moment that he would survive, but he then apparently lost consciousness as he neared the ground and hit too hard upon landing, breaking his neck.

Russia is a popular vacation spot for avid sky divers due to the country's many diving plane-equipped sport facilities and convenient prices.
