9 people killed in car accidents across Israel Wednesday
By Eli Ashkenazi, Haaretz Correspondent
Tags: highway 66, Megido Junction

Three women were killed Wednesday evening in a car accident between a jeep and a commercial vehicle at the Ein Harod intersection.

Five other people were injured in the accident, two of whom are in serious condition.

The initial police investigation shows that the jeep, coming from the direction of Beit She'an, veered from its lane and crashed into a commercial vehicle that was travelling in the opposite direction.

Two of the fatalities were passengers in the jeep, while the third was a passenger in the commercial vehicle.

Earlier on Wednesday, four people were killed and two others lightly injured near Hazorea junction on Highway 66, less than 24 hours after the previous deadly accident on the same road.

A private vehicle traveling northwards crashed into on oncoming taxi while attempting to overtake a third car, according to initial police reports.

In another separate car accident, near the West Bank settlement of Karmei Tzur, two teenagers, Yossi Mizrahi, 18, and Elad Edri, 16, were killed when their car was crushed under the wheels of a truck in a collision.

Three people were killed and nine others were injured Tuesday in two traffic accidents in the north of the country.

Two people were killed and five others were injured Tuesday in a pileup near Megiddo Junction on Highway 66. The accident occurred when a truck hit a vehicle in front of it, causing it to veer out of its lane and collide with another truck coming from the opposite direction. Both truck drivers were killed immediately, and another motorist was left in serious condition. Police arrived at the scene of the accident and said that particular stretch of road has been the site of repeated car crashes and accidents so the speed limit there has been reduced to 60 kph. Police have even considered closing the road to traffic

Earlier Tuesday, a man was killed and four motorists injured, one seriously so, in the early morning hours in a two-car collision at a junction in the village of Tel Hai. Galilee District Police are investigating and believe one of the cars ran a red light and caused the accident.
