Rightists held over Homesh shooting
By Nadav Shragai

Police arrested two right-wing activists at the ruins of the West Bank settlement of Homesh on Friday, on suspicion of shooting at a Palestinian man.

The two, who deny the allegations, were released with slight restrictions by the Petah Tikva District Court.

The right-wing organization Homesh Tehila said the police had "failed utterly to strike out the Jewish presence at Homesh," and said the police had encouraged "ridiculous false complaints by Arabs," adding "the return to Homesh will only grow stronger from all the persecution."

The organization also said no bullets or casings had been found at Homesh, and that one of the men arrested was 60 years old and not at Homesh at the time, and the other was a man in his 20s who does not carry a weapon.

Meanwhile, Breaking the Silence, an organization of demobilized Israel Defense Forces soldiers who document alleged harassment of Palestinians in the territories, canceled a tour of Hebron after police said they could not protect them against settler violence. The tours were to have recommenced after the IDF and Breaking the Silence jointly informed the High Court of Justice they were going to renew them for a three-month period.

The statement came after Breaking the Silence petitioned the High Court against an IDF decision to stop the tours.

However, in response to a petition against the tours by Hebron settlers, Justice Elyakim Rubinstein ordered the IDF to respond within a week as to why it had allowed the renewal of the tours. The settlers argued that the tours disturb the peace.

Meanwhile, nine Israelis entered Joseph's tomb in Nablus Thursday night without permission from the military authorities. They were detained by IDF soldiers and transferred to police custody for questioning.
