Couple, infant daughter killed in Western Galilee car accident
By Jack Khoury, Haaretz Correspondent

A couple in their twenties and their infant daughter were killed on Saturday in a fatal car accident at the Yavur Intersection in the Western Galilee.

Ismail and Najuan Khualed, a couple from the Galilee village of Shaab, and their daughter Eden, died near Acre yesterday when a truck traveling in the opposite direction overturned and crushed their car.

he couple's son, Tamir, was also seriously hurt in the crash as were two other drivers. Tamir was flown to the hospital by helicopter.

"The road is known as one tainted in blood," a neighbor of the couple said. "Now they'll probably widen it, but for this couple it's too late."

The village of Shaab was in heavy mourning yesterday as residents gathered in its main square to mark the loss.

Another resident of Shaab who knew the father from his work at the local supermarket said: "He was a nice and polite man who only wanted to support his small family. We hope and pray that the baby [Tamir] will recover. After he lost his parents and sister we will all be his family."

An initial police investigation suggests that the truck that overturned on Route 70, crushed the family's vehicle and then crashed into another car.

Magen David Adom emergency units and ambulances were dispatched to the scene.

Eyewitnesses said that emergency crews worked for some time before they succeeded in removing the victims from the crushed vehicle.

Hundreds of residents from the surrounding area arrived at the accident scene to identify the victims' car. The Northern District Traffic Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
