Tourism beats the dollar: 2008 sees a 9% growth
By Haaretz Service
Tags: dollar, Israel attractions
The Israeli tourism industry continues to go from strength to strength despite the decline of the dollar and unstable financial market.

Uncertainty in the financial market, the credit crisis and concern over deceleration or recession in the developing market has still not drastically affected the tourism industry, announced economists Dun and Bradstreet during a recent survey on the tourism sector.

Upon examination by the research and information company, it was found that there was 8-10 percent growth during the first quarter of this year, compared to the equivalent quarter in 2007.

According to the estimations of Dun and Bradstreet, the rapid fall of the dollar in relation to the shekel has not damaged incoming tourism even though the strength of the financial input from tourism is minor.

Reuven Kuvent, CEO of Dun and Bradstreet, claims that incoming tourism has grown due to relative stability on the security front; nevertheless, internal tourism is likely to be affected "because for Israelis, vacationing abroad has been made significantly cheaper."
