Man drowns at unrecognized bathing spot near Nahariya
By Jack Khoury, Haaretz Correspondent
Tags: Achziv beach, Israel

A man drowned to death Saturday in waters off Achziv beach, north of the town of Nahariya near the Lebanon border.

Swimming is not permitted at the spot, which is not patrolled by lifeguards.

The man, a 53-year-old resident of Carmiel, came to the beach with his two daughters, who were not harmed.

On the same beach, a 40-year-old man was moderately injured Saturday when he dove into the water to help his daughter, who was reportedly in danger of drowning. The man quickly lost strength after entering the water, and both he and his daughter had to be rescued by other swimmers at the beach.

Off Sdot Yam, another beach where bathing is forbidden, a four-year-old boy was lightly hurt while swimming Saturday
