Police chief hints Olmert's aides leaked details of Talansky case

Police Commissioner David Cohen hinted Tuesday that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's associates were actually the source of leaks to the media surrounding the corruption case currently underway against the prime minister.

Olmert is suspected of having illegally received funds from Jewish American millionaire Morris Talansky over the course of 15 years.

"The police insist on fairness and responsible reporting, and anyone accusing [us] of strong leaks should examine his own surroundings," Cohen said during a memorial service for fallen police officers in Shfaram.

Cohen's remarks were made after Olmert accused his investigators during questioning on Friday. According to Channel 10, Olmert said "you're pumping the media and endlessly leaking. You're waging a media war that deviates from any acceptable norm that would otherwise characterize a decent police force."

Cohen used the opportunity to address the police force in order to express his support for the members of the investigation team that questioned Olmert and Talansky in the case. "Over recent weeks, investigations are underway against public officials," Cohen said, adding "this is a sensitive complicated investigation being carried out by skilled professional investigators, while accompanied by the state prosecutor and the attorney general."
