Murdered teen Tair Rada's parents to sue state for NIS 2.5 million for negligence

Parents of murdered teen Tair Rada on Tuesday will present a lawsuit seeking NIS 2.5 in punitive damages from the state and the Nof Golan school where their daughter studied.

In the lawsuit, they reportedly hold the state responsible for not assuring the safety of their daughter, who was brutally murdered in a bathroom at her school in the Golan Heights town of Katzrin in December 2006.

The parents' attorney has stated that the damages sought are meant to cover physical and emotional harm to the parent's well-being, as well as their loss of income since the crime.

"We assert that at every stage, the plaintiffs in the case committed grave failures that lead to the cruel, unnecessary murder of this talented girl," the parents' attorney Oshri Shalosh stated.

The lawsuit will reportedly highlight several alleged failures on the part of the plaintiffs, including the fact that the school's exterior fence was low enough to be easily scaled and reportedly showed past signs of forced entry.

In addition, the lawsuit alleges that the school's gates were left unguarded and that even after Tair failed to return to class, no search was launched and her body was only found in the evening hours.

The Rada's attorney has also stated that on the day of the murder, the security officer for the local council was still undergoing a training course and that furthermore, the school had hired a contractor who employed a number of workers without visas who had not undergone police background checks, a violation of Education Ministry guidelines.

The lawsuit will also allege that the school maintained a liberal policy in regard to the entry of visitors, which it terms 'criminal negligence.'

The Education Ministry issued a response saying that they sympathize with the family's loss and will respond to the lawsuit in full once they have a chance to review it further.

Katzrin resident Roman Zadorov, 29, a worker at the school was arrested two weeks after the murder and confessed to the crime, but has since recanted his confession and maintains his innocence, claiming he was under intense pressure to confess during his interrogation.
