Report: Avram Grant favorite for manager at Manchester City

Israeli soccer coach Avram Grant, whose stint as manager at English club Chelsea FC came to an abrupt end Saturday, is the favorite to take over at Manchester City, British newspaper The Times reported Sunday.

Grant was fired by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich on Saturday, three days after the team were beaten in the Champions League final by Manchester United. Grant, who replaced Jose Mourinho at Chelsea eight months ago, also saw his team place second to United in the English Premier League.

City are looking for a replacement for their manager Sven-Goran Eriksson, who has fallen from favor with club owner Thaksin Shinawatra.

According to The Times, Grant has impressed Shinawatra by taking Chelsea to the Champions League final and by coming second in the premiership. The report also says that
Shinawatra "is further attracted by the dignity Grant has shown in difficult circumstances since taking over from Jose Mourinho last year."

Meanwhile, Grant will reportedly receive a severance package worth over $10 million, following the termination of his contract at Chelsea.
