Israel Festival
The Guide
The country's paramount international performing arts event, first launched in 1961, kicks off this week, helping take Israel's 60th anniversary celebrations to the next level.

This year's festival features works by artists from at least 13 countries, including France, Brazil, Poland, South Korea, England, Russia and of course Israel. With regard to Poland, specifically, the festival constitutes another example of the cultural partnerships between Israel and Poland, taking place this year.

The festival includes dance, theater, classical music and other performances. Aside from performances, the event boasts an impressive roster of master classes, cultural events for kids, as well as free happenings in the Jerusalem Theater plaza and foyer.

When: May 24-June 22 at various venues in Jerusalem, Holon and Herzliya.

The Inbal Pinto and Avshalom Pollak Dance Company will open the festival with the Israeli premiere of "Hydra," an Israeli, Japanese and Swiss co-production that combines both western and Japanese influences in an exploration into the nature of beauty. The Songs of Cinema Annual extravaganza will pay tribute to songs from Israeli movies; this year's production features Zehava Ben, Sassi Keshet, Aya Korem, Ivri Lider, Keren Hadar, Berry Sakharof, Ninette Tayeb and others. Wed at 21.00, Sultan's Pool.
