(AP) Last update - 08:59 25/05/2008 Israel places 9th in 2008 Eurovision Song Contest; Russia wins By Reuters and Haaretz Service Tags: Russia, Eurovision, Israel Boaz Mauda and his backup singers placed 9th in the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade on Saturday night with their performance of Israel's entry - "Fire in your eyes." Russia won the contest, with Dima Bilan beating 24 contestants to clinch his country's first victory in the competition with the impassioned rock ballad 'Believe.' Advertisement Bilan got 272 points from telephone voters in 43 countries. Ukraine came second and Greece third. The contest, held in Belgrade after Marija Serifovic's ballad clinched victory for Serbia in its debut as a solo nation in 2007, was broadcast live across Europe to an estimated audience of 100 million people. The Eurovision Song Contest - Europe's most glamorous pop song festival - is held annually and watched by an audience of more than 100 million people across the globe.
