German Muslim sentenced to 3 years in jail for stabbing rabbi By The Associated Press Tags: Frankfurt Rabbi, Israel  A Frankfurt state court has sentenced a 23-year-old German Muslim to three and a half years in prison for attacking a rabbi with a knife. On Tuesday, the court found Sajed Aziz guilty of causing serious injuries in a September attack on Orthodox Rabbi Zalman Gurevitch. But Judge Klaus Drescher said there was not enough evidence to support the original charge of attempted manslaughter. The court said testimony did not show that Aziz intended to kill the man, though Drescher noted that he clearly called Gurevitch, 43, "a Jewish pig." Advertisement Aziz admitted in court that he stabbed Gurevitch on Sept. 7 during a confrontation on a Frankfurt street but called it self-defense, saying Gurevitch had grabbed him by the collar. Gurevitch said Aziz first shouted anti-Semitic slurs at him and then plunged a nearly 3-inch-long (7-centimeter) blade into his lower abdomen. A German citizen born of Afghan parents, Aziz has denied all along that the attack had an anti-Semitic motive or that he had intended to kill the rabbi. Aziz's lawyers said they would not appeal the ruling. The attack prompted concern and condemnation from local politicians and Jewish groups.
