Poland's chief rabbi says kaddish for savior of Jewish children in Holocaust By The Associated Press Tags: Holocaust, Irena Sendler  Warsaw's Jewish community has bid farewell to Irena Sendler, the Polish social worker who saved nearly 2,500 Jewish children from the Nazi Holocaust. Sendler died last Monday at the age of 98. Poland's chief Orthodox rabbi, Michael Schudrich, says the Jewish community has a duty to remember her "because she saved our children, but also our soul and the world." Advertisement He recited the Kaddish, the Jewish prayer for the dead, in front of about 200 people who gathered Sunday at Warsaw's Nozyk synagogue to remember Sendler.
