The Israel Defense Forces confirmed the attack, which took place in Gaza, not far across the border from Kibbutz Ein Hashlosha. On Friday, Israeli civilian Jimmy Kdoshim, 48, was killed by a mortar shell fired by Hamas militants. Advertisement The airstrike came a few hours after two Qassam rockets fired from Gaza hit south of Ashkelon, sparking a fire in an open area. One woman was treated for shock. Earlier Tuesday, Defense Minister Ehud Barak said that a decision whether to increase military operations in Gaza or agree to a truce deal with Hamas will be made within weeks, speaking during a tour of the western Negev. Barak also told local councilors that the plight of their communities cannot be solved immediately. Local council heads asked Barak on Tuesday to make efforts to come to a decision without delay, after two people were killed in rocket attacks over the past few days. They also asked Barak to allow them to meet with U.S. President George Bush upon his visit to Israel, which is commencing on Wednesday. "We would like to let the prime minister know that due to the government's disregard of our communities and its incompetence in dealing with our volatile situation, which led to the death of two people in less than a week, we demand to meet the 'real boss,' George Bush, who really sets the political agenda in our region," the councilors said. Meanwhile, Batya Katar of the Panel for a Secure Sderot dispatched a letter to the White House, pleading for Bush to come to Sderot and witness the situation in person, given his considerable weight in Israeli decision-making. On Monday, a 70-year-old woman in was killed in a rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. The victim was identified as Shuli Katz, of Kibbutz Gvaram. The rocket hit a house in Moshav Yesha, where Katz was a guest, 15 kilometers east of Gaza. The rocket struck farther away than the usual targets of rockets fired by Gaza militants.
