Last update - 00:47 12/05/2008 Kadima members berate Livni for silence over Olmert probe By Mazal Mualem, Haaretz Correspondent Tags: Ehud Olmert, Morris Talansky Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni has come increasingly under fire from fellow Kadima party members for keeping mum on the latest investigation against Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, but "has behaved as she saw fit and will continue to do so," sources close to her said Sunday. In contrast to Livni's marked silence, fellow Kadima ministers Shaul Mofaz, Roni Bar-On, Meir Sheetrit, Ruhama Avraham Balila, and Vice Premier Haim Ramon spoke out Sunday about Olmert's right to be presumed innocent until proved guilty. Olmert told a meeting of Kadima's ministers Sunday: "I have no complaints about the State Prosecutor's Office or the police, and I find no fault with them." Advertisement His comment followed Public Security Minister Avi Dichter's concern lest the meeting give rise to the impression that Kadima ministers are against the law enforcement authorities. Olmert confidants lashed out at Livni Sunday, calling her "an ingrate" and warning that she would pay a price. Since the gag order on the Olmert case was loosened, senior Kadima members have taken a double approach: publicly refraining from attacking or challenging his leadership, but holding internal conversations about how to choose his replacement. Olmert and his people are aware of the off-the-record statements by party leaders to the effect that "he's finished," but take comfort for now in the absence of threatened mutiny in the ranks. Key party activists even convened a show of support for Olmert at Kadima headquarters in Petah Tikva Sunday. Some 200 activists sent a message to their ministers and Knesset members that they expect them to give Olmert their full support. Olmert still controls the party machinery, and, even if forced to resign, he will still be able to influence internal processes in Kadima. Although there was no explicit criticism of Livni, activists said the message was meant primarily for her. Some activists praised those Kadima ministers who came to Olmert's defense, and there were also calls for the party's MKs and ministers to instigate legislation barring investigation of sitting prime ministers.
