Quilting in blue and white By Daphna Berman A collection of 13 blue and white quilts made to mark Israel's 60th birthday will soon be on display around the country, as part of a project launched by an English speakers' quilting club based in the Sharon region. The winning entry, called "It's been good and will be better" was quilted by Zvia Strahilevitz-Klein, the group's former chairperson. Other entries included "The Disappearing Kinneret" by Ofr Eidelman Burda and "Same same - but different" by Zimbabwe-born Marlyn Butchins, current chair of the group. The mini-quilts - which are approximately 14 square inches - all contain more than 50 per cent blue or a blue/white combination.Butchins, who lives in Kfar Saba, also initiated the The Dizengoff Memorial Quilt, which pays tribute to the lives of the victims of the Dizengoff Center bombing. Butchins lost her mother and sister, Sylvia Bernstein, 74, and Gail Belkin, 48, in the Purim 1996 explosion. Advertisement The Accent Quilters, as they are known, also make quilts for charity and, in particular, support Dana Children's Hospital, a division of the Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center. Formed in 1992, the name reflects the various accents-British, American, Canadian, South African, Australian and Israeli-spoken by the group's members when using English. The Israel-themed quilts will be on display at various quilting groups, as well as quilting galleries in the country.
