Jewish communities worldwide are celebrating Israel's 60th anniversary with various gala events that kicked off Wednesday night and are continuing through June.

Europe's largest Independence Day celebration takes place at London's Wembley Arena on Thursday night at 19:45.

The event - planned by the Zionist Organization of Britain & Ireland -features performances by Israeli singer Sarit Hadad, the IDF Entertainment Troupe, and comedian Jackie Mason.

Another tribute event took place Wednesday night at New York's Radio City Music Hall and featured a star-studded line-up, including popular Israeli artists David Broza, Idan Raichel, Rami Kleinstein, Habanot Nechama and Yael Naim.

The same roster will also appear at the May 10 Independence Day celebration at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

Some U.S. cities are also hosting events on June 1. The annual Salute to Israel Day parade takes place along New York City's Fifth Avenue, where banners featuring familiar Israeli faces will line the parade route.

Entitled "Faces of Israel," the campaign is designed to present the diversity of Israeli society to the American public.

And in Washington, D.C., also on June 1, the Israel @ 60: A Capital Celebration will include performances by Israeli rock band Mashina, along with indie songstress Regina Spektor, singer-songwriter Mandy Patinkin and the puppets from Sesame Street.
