On the eve of Independence Day, you can partake in the following events:

Jerusalem. Haim Moshe, Arik Berman, Yishai Lapidot, Dana Berger, Yermi Kaplan, Maya Bouskila, and DJ Yiftach Giladi will perform on the central Zion Square stage. Emcee: Yishai Lapidot. A sound-and-light display will begin at 10:30 P.M. on Jaffa Street. Ilanit will appear at Safra Square. Contact: (02) 531-4600.

Tel Aviv. Ilan Gilboa will lead public singing and host Yizhar Cohen and Nurit Hirsh; the Gevatron choir and Matti Caspi will perform, and a multimedia show will be staged in Rabin Square.

The Independence party at the Sportek, in North Tel Aviv, will feature Ivri Lider, Monica Sex and Dana International. Israeli folk dancing will take place in the Tel Aviv Museum plaza.

Come Independence Day ...

Haifa. Bands will parade along a two-kilometer route. International and Israel Defense Force bands will participate. The parade will culminate at the Kiryat Eliezer Stadium in a grand display of parachuting skills by 11 paratroopers.

The Israel Nature and National Parks Protection Authority. Oil lamps will light the way of visitors touring the trenches of Castel National Park, as the story of Israel's strategic capture of the Castel fortress is revealed, 5-9 P.M. The Jewish National Fund. Walking tours of the Hurvat Burgin archaeological site, activities for the whole family at Hurvat Etri in the JNF Center at Givat Yishayahu; a bicycle trip on the new bicycle path in Adulam Park; and a land rover excursion on paths that cross the park from the Nachusha Junction near Beit Guvrin.

Activities will culminate in an Independence Day celebration on the slopes of Hurvat Etri in which the Tsofim ensemble and Einat Saruf will perform. Admission is free. Contact the JNF-KKL at 1-800-350550 for more information.

The Society for the Protection of Nature. The story of the Nitzanim site and the Shikmim Field School. Hikers will encounter historical figures, learn about construction of the "palace," discover the identity of "Shoshana," and find out what happened at the Battle of Nitzanim. The Naharayim Experience. On the bridge at the Valley of Springs (in the Beit Shean Valley), take part in a baking workshop for the entire family. Contact:(04)675-2685.

The Old Courtyard museum at Kibbutz Ein Shemer. Activities focus on establishment of the state.

Participants dressed as pioneer founders of the state work in construction, pave roads, pitch tents, plow, launder, guard the kibbutz and bake rolls in an old, brick oven. Contact: (04) 637-4327.

The Jordan Valley. The Kinneret Courtyard's Centennial Celebration. Guided tours that follow the story of Jewish settlement in the Jordan Valley including a film screening. Contact: (04) 670-9117.

Neot Kedumim. Independent navigation for the entire family, from 9 A.M.

Mini Israel. A display of 50 rare, collectible cars and a salute to the Susita. Contact: (08)913-0010.

Madatek, the National Museum of Science, Technology, and Space in Haifa. Guided tours of exhibits will emphasize Israeli angles.

Machon Avni School of Arts, 23 Eilat Street, Jaffa. The design and visual communications department's student exhibition will highlight 60 significant moments in Israel's history. From 10 A.M.

Manara Cliffs. Singing tours, free to those born in 1948.

Tel Hai Industrial Park. "The Way We Were," a photographic exhibition dedicated to the nation's 60th Anniversary.

On Memorial Day

Observance of Memorial Day for Israel's Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism will include a photographic exhibition of about 1,000 memorial sites, which will take place on Tuesday, between 10:30 A.M. and 1:30 P.M., at Beit Berel College. Admission is free.

Shabbat: A treasure hunt on Shabbat, May 10, at the Beit Shmuel Center for Progressive Judaism in Jerusalem. The route: Beit Shmuel, Mt. Zion, David's Tomb, the Jaffa Gate in the Old City, and its surroundings.
