IDF charges three soldiers with assaulting Palestinian civilian
By Yuval Azoulay, Haaretz Correspondent

Three soldiers of the Kfir Brigade were recently charged at the Jaffa Military Court with assaulting, abusing and beating a Palestinian civilian.

The incident occured in late January near the taxi stop at the roadblock near Kafr Fahm, southwest of Jenin. According to the testimony of the Palestinian in charge of the taxi stop, Ziad Abu-Sneina, given to a volunteer of the human rights group Yesh Din, the soldiers tied his hands, beat him, dragged him through a puddle of water, covered his face with a kaffiyeh and pretended to shoot him with a toy gun.

Yesh Din said Sunday that the entire incident lasted some three hours. The organization also filed a complaint with Military Police against the soldiers.

Following an investigation carried out by the army, a decision was made to bring charges against the soldiers for assault, abuse and aggravated injuries.

According to the indictment, the incident occured after the soldiers ordered the taxi stop attendant to order the vehicles away from the road block. They then began kicking the vehicles and damaging them. When Abu-Sneina asked them why they were hitting the vehicles, they beat him, dragged him to their jeep and tied his hands.

The military court will decide today whether to place the three under arrest until the completion of the trial.

At the Kfir Brigade they said Sunday that incidents of this sort are being treated with severity and said that bringing those guilty to justice, in line with military regulations is their priority
