Qassam damage to a house in Sderot (Limor Edri) Last update - 17:55 04/05/2008 Palestinians: IDF kills civilian in Gaza; three rockets hit Sderot By Mijal Grinberg, Haaretz Correspondent and Reuters Tags: Gaza Strip  GAZA - Israel Defense Forces troops killed a Palestinian civilian in the southern part of the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip on Sunday, Palestinian medical workers said. They said the 41-year-old man, Hussam a-Najah, was hit by an IDF tank shell outside his home near the town of Khan Yunis. The medical officials added that the shell had also wounded a-Najah's brother and wife. An IDF spokeswoman said Israeli forces were operating in the area but she had no immediate details about the incident. Advertisement Also on Sunday, four Israelis were treated for shock when a barrage of three Qassam rockets struck the western Negev city of Sderot. One of the rockets hit a cemetery in the city, causing damage to some headstones. The second rocket destroyed the roof of a shop in the city's commercial district and the third damaged a residential building. On Sunday afternoon, Israel closed the border crossings at Karni and Nahal Oz, after armed Hamas militants fired mortar shells and other munitions at IDF troops operating in the Strip. There were no casualties among the Israeli troops. Israel frequently carries out raids in the Gaza Strip which it says are aimed at curbing rocket fire into southern Israeli communities. Last Thursday, two women and three students were treated for shock after a rocket exploded near a school in Sderot. On the same day, a rocket struck the community store in Kibbutz Nir Am and another exploded south of the kibbutz. Sapir College in Sderot and the Gavim Junction were also hit by rockets thatd day.
