Holocaust Remembrance Day
Police to up activity against places of entertainment open on Holocaust Day
By Jonathan Lis, Haaretz Correspondent
Tags: Memorial Day, police

The Israel Police will increase enforcement activity throughout Israel against places of entertainment that illegally remain open during Holocaust Remembrance Day, which begins Wednesday night.

Public and government ceremonies will receive protection from officers and police volunteers in order to ensure order.

Enforcement will also increase against places of entertainment that remain open on Remembrance Day for Fallen Soldiers next week.

For that occasion, along with Independence Day the following day, police will raise their alert level to one stage below the highest. Officers' vacations will be canceled, and thousands of officers and volunteers will be deployed in cemeteries and at public events. Police will declare the sites of particularly large Independence Day celebrations "security territories."
