International Middle East envoy Tony Blair has appointed a senior U.S. diplomat to run his office in Jerusalem.

Blair's office said Sunday that Robert Danin will serve as his new head of mission. Danin will take a leave from his current job as deputy assistant secretary of state for Near East Affairs.

Announcing the appointment Sunday, Blair's office said Danin has extensive experience working on Middle East issues for the State Department and the White House.
