Ex-Chief Rabbi Eliyahu in serious condition after heart attack
By Jonathan Lis, Haaretz Correspondent

Israel's former Sephardi chief rabbi, Mordechai Eliyahu, was rushed to Sha'arei Tzedek Hospital in Jerusalem on Friday night after falling ill with a heart attack.

Magen David Adom emergency services said the rabbi's condition was serious.

At around 2:00 A.M., MDA medical crews were summoned to Eliyahu's home in Jerusalem after the rabbi complained of serious shortness of breath and strong chest pains.

An MDA ambulance arrived at the home, where medical personnel determined that the rabbi had suffered a heart attack. Medics also observed symptoms suggesting Eliyahu's lungs were swelling with excessive fluids.
