Last update - 17:05 23/04/2008 2 men allegedly held elderly against will, stole thousands By Jonathan Lis, Haaretz Correspondent Tags: Israel, Jerusalem, crime  A 45-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of trying to defraud a 94-year-old Jerusalem resident and steal NIS 700,000 from him while locking him up in his house in the North. Over the past few days, the suspect visited the victim's bank branch in Jerusalem twice, and withdrew hundreds of thousands of shekels from his account. Increasingly suspicious of the irregular movement in the account, the employees informed the police. The Jerusalem police fraud unit tracked down the suspect's residence in the north of Israel, and found the elderly man held in it against his will, confused and agitated. He was taken to hospital for treatment. Advertisement The suspect was the apprehended at the bank as he was trying to withdraw more funds from the victim's account. An 80-year-old suspected accomplice was also detained, but was eventually released due to his poor health.
