12-year-old in critical condition after being buried alive

A 12-year-old boy from Sharon region town of Kadima was critically injured Thursday when a mound of sand that he was playing on collapsed, burying him alive.

Local residents and a tractor driver rescued the asphyxiated boy, who was not breathing and had no pulse, and attempted to resuscitate him.

A Magen David Adom team that arrived on the scene continued the resuscitation efforts and evacuated the boy to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva.

"During the drive to the hospital, the boy's pulse returned, but he is still in critical condition. We are praying for his health," said one of the paramedics.

Police are investigating the incident.
