Court extends remand of man accused of threatening Leviev's brother

A Tel Aviv court on Wednesday extended the remand of a Bat Yam man, 47, arrested on suspicion that he threatened Moshe Leviev, brother of billionaire Lev Leviev.

The police questioned the suspect several times during the past year over the alleged threats, and are investigating whether the suspect shot at Moshe Leviev's mailbox on one occasion.

Police received a report about the unidentified suspect on Tuesday, which claimed that he had threatened Moshe Leviev, a senior manager at his brother's Africa-Israel company and a Bnei Brak resident, over the last two days.

According to Leviev, the suspect came to his house two days ago and threatened his wife over the intercom, saying, "I will do things that we will all regret. My family is finished; yours will be as well."

The suspect also called the Leviev home on Tuesday and threatened to harm his family. When police arrived, they suspected that the man also shot at the household mailbox. It emerged that the police were already familiar with the suspect from previous complaints filed against him by the billionaire businessman.

The suspect is embroiled in a dispute with the Leviev brothers over a real estate deal, involving a plot purchased by the Levievs' Africa-Israel company in Southern Tel Aviv for which they compensated residents who agreed to evacuate their property. The suspect refused compensation and took the Levievs to court, where he was awarded less monetary damages than originally offered.

The suspect's lawyer in court on Wednesday said that this is a civil dispute and requested a shortened prison stay for his client. Judge Avichai Doron, however, extended the suspect's remand so that he can undergo psychiatric evaluation.
