Police, on Interpol tip, detain 30 for alleged pedophila offenses

Police across the country, acting on a tip from Interpol, detained 30 suspects for questioning Monday in connection with allegations they held and distributed pedophilic materials.

The suspects, who have no connection with one another, have no criminal records with regard to sexual offenses.

The suspects were located on the basis of material provided Israeli officers by Interpol, acting on evidence gathered by Brazilan police.

Police seized computers and digital media devices in the suspects' homes which tied them to the alleged offenses.

This is the third operation this year in which Israeli police have seized suspects in connection with pornographic material distributed on the Internet. Some 40 suspects were detained in the two previous operations.

Police have said additional waves of arrests are expected.
