Father of 10 accused of severely abusing his children, wife
By Ofra Edelman, Haaretz Correspondent
Tags: child abuse, Ramle

An indictment filed Sunday charges a 38-year-old father of ten from Ramle with severely abusing his children and his second wife.

According to the indictment, which was submitted to the Petah Tikva District Court, the man habitually beat his children, ranging in age from three to 15, over the course of the last 18 months.

The indictment charges that he kicked them, whipped them with a belt or a hose, slapped them, bit them, put out cigarettes on their bodies, burned their fingers with a lighter, doused them with scalding water and withheld food and sleep.

The father employed these violent methods when, among other things, the children threw a ball into the neighbors' yard, or made noise while the father ate breakfast, or when he believed the children had cut a curtain in the house.

The man has been charged with abuse of a minor by a responsible party.

In addition, he has also been charged with aggravated assault against his wife, whom he also beat. The man broke his wife's tooth and caused her eye to swell and threatened to have her deported to Morocco, where she was originally from, if she filed a complaint against him.
