Bat Yam man arrested for beating his wife with hammer
By Roni Singer-Heruti, Haaretz Correspondent
Tags: Bat Yam, domestic abuse

Police arrested a 58-year-old Bat Yam man early Monday morning, after he allegedly tried to kill his 47-year-old wife by striking her with a hammer. The woman is in stable condition at Tel Aviv's Ichilov hospital. Her husband, who also allegedly attempted to stab her to death, is scheduled to appear in court this morning in Rishon Lezion.

The incident occurred around midnight. Police received reports about a husband attacking his wife in a Bat Yam home. They broke into the apartment and found the suspect holding a knife. His wife was lying on the bathroom floor, and her body was badly injured. She told police that her husband attacked her, hit her with a hammer, and waved a knife at her, threatening to kill her.

Police called Magen David Adom to the scene to treat the victim.
