Gilad Shalit's father blasts PM
By Jack Khoury

The father of abducted soldier Gilad Shalit blasted Prime Minister Ehud Olmert yesterday for his hesitance and failure to decide on the right action to gain his son's release.

"Why must only Gilad Shalit, of the entire chain of command involved in the abduction botch-up, have to pay the price?" Noam Shalit asked at a solidarity rally organized by the student union at Bar-Ilan University.

Shalit said that Olmert, who had promised to bring home the kidnapped soldiers, was "hesitating, avoiding decisions, putting off action, in contrast to his predecessors, who knew how to make a decision and act on it."

"Why should Gilad be the only sucker to pay the price?" Shalit said.

Gilad Shalit was captured by Palestinian militants who raided an army outpost near Gaza on June 25, 2006.

Remembering Sharon

"Sharon, unlike all his advisers who objected to the [Elhanan] Tannenbaum deal, stated 'I won't leave any Jew with those animals,'" Noam Shalit said. He was referring to an Israeli who was freed from captivity in Lebanon in 2004.

"Netanyahu could also make up his mind and did not hesitate when Mossad people were caught in Amman even when their lives were not in danger, and released two arch terrorists for them. That's exactly what a prime minister is elected for - he's the ship's captain and he is the one who must decide," Shalit said.
