Hamas: IDF action killed two fighters, one civilian yesterday
By Haaretz Correspondents and Agencies , By Yuval Azoulay and Avi Issacharoff

Three Palestinians were killed yesterday in the Gaza Strip, two of them members of Hamas' military wing who died in a blast at a camp run by the Islamic group, Hamas said. It said an Israeli air strike killed the two - Mohammed Bner and Nur Jundiya.

A military spokesman, however, denied IDF responsibility for that incident and two others yesterday.

Islamic Jihad claimed that two of its members were attacked in an Israeli air strike, but there was no independent confirmation of this.

The Palestinians also reported that IDF troops shot dead a 60-year-old farmer riding his donkey near the border fence east of Khan Yunis.

The Israel Defense Forces reported yesterday that a roadside bomb was detonated as an army patrol passed along the border fence, also in the central Gaza area. There were no casualties.

New rocket to target Ashkelon

Islamic Jihad has developed a rocket with an estimated range of 18 to 20 kilometers, according to defense sources. The new weapon allows the group's militants in Gaza to strike large parts of the southern city of Ashkelon and nearby communities.

A military source said a rocket of this type was first used against Israel in late February. The rocket fell in open fields, causing no damage.

In the past, Hamas managed to strike Ashkelon using upgraded Qassam rockets made in workshops in the Gaza Strip. One of the rockets hit the yard of the city's Henry Ronson school, and others fell in open fields in Ashkelon's southern outskirts. Most of the rockets hit the industrial zone to the south of the city.

Yesterday, a Qassam fired by militants in Gaza struck a kibbutz in the western Negev. No injuries were reported, but the rocket damaged a building.
