Israel Broadcasting Authority general director Mordechai Sklar (Dan Keinan) Last update - 18:38 20/03/2008 Abbas' sons sue Channel 1 for reporting they own cellphone company By The Associated Press Tags: israel, tariq abbas  Two sons of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas are suing Israel Broadcasting Authority's television Channel 1 over a news report which claimed they own a major portion of a Palestinian cellphone company. Tariq and Yasser Abbas say the December report defamed them by claiming that their father pressured Israel to give them frequency channels to launch a new cellular network, and that they own shares in Palestinian cellphone operator Wataniyeh. Abbas' sons case against the IBA is based on the claim that the report harmed their reputations and are taking legal action against IBA general director Mordechai Sklar, its news director and the reporter who a Advertisement ired the story. The IBA confirmed it is being sued, and a spokesperson said it stands completely behind the content of the report "It is obvious to all that the aim of this publication has nothing to do with the IBA but rather with internal Palestinian matters. In any case, the IBA will give its response in court," the spokesperson said. The Abbas brothers denied they are partners in the phone company, and that their father intervened on behalf of the company with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. The Palestinians currently have only one cellphone provider, Jawwal. Olmert's office did not have any immediate comment.
