Migrant worker community chooses its sexiest member
By Haaretz Staff and Channel 10
Tags: Israel, Central Bus Station
Haaretz.com/Channel 10 news roundup for March 18, 2008.

While the Tel Aviv Central Bus Station on Saturday nights generally plays host to Israel's migrant worker population, this past weekend was a little different.

A nightclub in the station held a competition to select the most beautiful male member of the roughly 200,000-member strong community of migrant workers in the country.

By day, many work long hours in construction, cleaning or caregiving, earning far less than minimum wage, in order to send money back home. Roughly half of them lack permits, and are forced to dodge police and stay largely removed from the public.
