Argentine Jews commemorate 1992 Israeli embassy bombing
By Haaretz Service

Young Argentine Jews on Sunday marked the 16th anniversary of a bombing attack on the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires, which left 29 people dead and 242 injured, the Australian Jewish News reported.

The attack is said to have been carried out by Hezbollah on 17 March 1992, shortly after the IDF assassination of the militant organization's then leader, Abbas Musawi.

Imad Mughniyah, who was assassinated in Damascus last month, is said to have been the mastermind behind the bombing, as well as numerous other attacks against Israeli and Jewish establishments worldwide.

Public Security Minister Avi Dichter, who attended the ceremony held at the city's Plaza Embajada de Israel, said Israel will not surrender to terror.

"Those who believe they can beat Israel using terror are mistaken," he said. "This people [the Jewish people] has successfully re-emerged, and overcome things even more terrible than terrorism."

"When so many young people gather to remember, then the memory acquires a different meaning. One knows that it will remain and strengthen much more than a common memory," the minister added.
