Ra'am-Ta'al Chairman MK Sheikh Ibrahim Sarsur (Nir Cafri) Last update - 21:25 17/03/2008 Arab MK to chief rabbis: Slam rabbinic calls to harm Arabs By Yoav Stern, Haaretz Correspondent Tags: Mercaz Harav, Chief Rabbi  Ra'am-Ta'al Chairman MK Sheikh Ibrahim Sarsur on Monday urged Israel's chief rabbis to condemn Halakhic rulings by National Religious rabbis calling on Jews to avenge the attack at the Mercaz Harav yeshiva earlier this month. Last week, a group of rightist rabbis last week exhorted Jews to avenge their enemies 'measure for measure' in retaliation for the shooting attack, where a Palestinian terrorist gunned down eight students in the Jerusalem seminary. Sarsur demanded the religious leaders take a firm stance against what he branded "deadly rulings," which many in the Israeli Arab community fear could be interpreted as permitting the assassination of their leaders. Advertisement The Arab MK, who heads the southern wing of the Islamic movement in Israel, said these rulings could further harm the already tense Jewish-Arab relations in Israel, and warned of a racist campaign against Arabs. Last week, the Islamic movement's northern wing announced they had hired guards to step up the security of its leaders and institutions fearing attacks by rightists.
