State Prosecutor: Israel's civil service is plagued by corruption
By Haaretz Service
Tags: Moshe Lador, Israel

State Prosecutor Moshe Lador told the Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee on Monday that "Israel is plagued by what we see as corruption."

"A society which does not trust its representative puts itself in great danger," Lador said. "We must fight these tendencies, to prevent civil servants and elected representatives from shaking society's foundation."

Lador said criminal cases should be more rigorously dealt in the legal arena, and not left up to public opinion, as is often customary.

Lador also lamented the cuts in the Prosecution's budget, saying "it would have been appropriate to allocate more funds to the law enforcement system. Without sufficient resources, it is impossible to enforce the law in an adequate and effective manner," Lador added.
