IDF arrests three Palestinians who threw bombs at settlement
By Yuval Azoulay, Haaretz Correspondent
Tags: Palestinians, West Bank

Israel Defense Forces soldiers operating near Bethlehem in the West Bank on Friday shot and wounded a group of three Palestinians who were seen earlier hurling explosives and Molotov cocktails towards the entrance of the Jewish settlement of Migdal Oz.

The IDF said the Palestinians were subsequently taken to a hospital for medical treatment and will later be handed over to the custody of the Shin Bet security service for further questioning.

According to the IDF, a contingent of troops from the Shimshon battalion of the Kfir infantry brigades noticed a group of Palestinians who threw explosive objects while in a vehicle near the entrance gate to the settlement, which lies near the Palestinian town of Beit Fajar. The soldiers proceeded to open fire, scoring a direct hit on the suspects before the car sped away.

The IDF searched the surrounding areas and eventually located the vehicle used by the Palestinians. Two of the Palestinians were discovered hiding in a nearby building in Beit Fajar where the vehicle was found. Soldiers also erected a checkpoint at El-Arub, where they arrested the third suspect.

A fourth Palestinian involved in the incident was also wounded by IDF gunfire, yet he managed to flee the scene and elude arrest. The suspect received medical treatment from a Red Crescent ambulance in a Palestinian-controlled section of the West Bank.

No injuries or damage to the settlement or soldiers was reported.
