Last update - 09:57 06/03/2008 Report: Jordanian lawmakers reject energy cooperation with Israel By DPA Tags: Israel, Palestinians, Jordan  Jordan's lower house of parliament has voted to reject an article in a temporary electricity law that allows the government to engage in a regional power grid in which Israel is a part, local newspapers reported Thursday. The proposal rejecting energy cooperation with Israel was introduced Wednesday evening by deputies from the Islamic Action Front, Jordan's largest political party. "This is a political message to Israel that we, as people, do not want to deal with this entity because of its crimes against women and children in the occupied Arab lands and vicious plans in the region," party deputy Suleiman Khalaf said. Advertisement Jordan is linked to Syria, Egypt and Turkey in a power grid and recently has started supplying the West Bank city of Jericho with electricity. There have been no plans for Israel's involvement in the regional power grid, but Khalaf cited reports suggesting that both countries were planning future interconnectivity cooperation. Officials from the Ministry of Energy were not available for comment. The peace treaty which Jordan signed with Israel in 1994 provides for economic cooperation between the two countries.
