Last update - 14:25 05/03/2008 Gilad Shalit's French lawyers to Israeli gov't: Let us go to Gaza By Yigal Hai, Haaretz Correspondent Tags: Gilad Shalit, Israel, Hamas  Two French lawyers representing Israel Defense Forces soldier Gilad Shalit, who was abducted by Palestinian militants in June 2006, have arrived in Israel with intention to travel to Gaza and negotiate his release. Stéphane Zerbib and Emmanuel Altit told a Tel Aviv press conference that "in light of the situation in Gaza, it seems the Israeli authorities will not let us through tomorrow." The lawyers also said that they have been lobbying European public figures and politicians in order to raise the profile of the abducted soldier, who is a French citizen. Advertisement Altit added that U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's Mideast visit could create a positive momentum that should be seized by allowing them to meet Hamas officials in Gaza.
