This was one of eight Qassams to hit southern Israel on Wednesday. Eran Avni, whose 12-year-old daughter was injured, was at home when the missile landed. "I heard a loud boom, and it was obvious that a Qassam had landed inside the kibbutz, because they usually fall inside the kibbutz." Advertisement The advance warning system had not gone off this time, he said. "I didn't know where the Qassam fell. The phone calls began immediately and then my daughter's counselor called to tell me that she had been hurt, that she was being treated and that I should come. I came and saw her with shrapnel in her shoulder," Avni said. His daughter, along with the other girl, a 2-year-old, were taken to Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva. Also, an 82-year-old woman was hit by flying glass when the rocket struck near her home. She had been asleep in bed, and the rocket shattered her window. She was not injured. Haim Yellin, head of the Eshkol Regional Council and a member of Be'eri, was in Tel Aviv when the rocket hit the kibbutz, near where his daughter was at the time. "The windows in nearby homes were shattered," Yellin said. "Another miracle in our book of miracles happened today." He said the failure of the warning sirens was under investigation. Investing in reinforced spaces is useless unless the warning systems are operable, he added. Of the eight Qassams fired from Gaza at the western Negev Wednesday, six struck within the Eshkol Regional Council, while one landed in Sderot. It fell on the home of the Adam family, which belongs to the urban kibbutz in the city. Galit Adam and her three children were at home when the Qassam stuck and damaged an external wall of their Sderot home. They had run ran into the home's reinforced room when the alert sounded. As of last night, the family had refused offers to stay in an Ashkelon hotel. Moti Bassok adds: Finance Minister Roni Bar-On on Wednesday extended through 2008 the frontier status of Sderot and the Gaza Strip border communities. This status confers property tax reductions and benefits for indirect damages. The Knesset Finance Committee is expected to approve the decision.
