Palestinians: PRC leader killed, 2 hurt in IAF strike on north Gaza

An Israel Air Force aircraft attacked a car traveling in the northern Gaza Strip on Monday, wounding three people, two of them seriously, Palestinian medical officials said.

The Popular Resistance Committees said Abu Said Qarmout, its leader in
northern Gaza, was killed in the strike.

The reported air strike came a short time after a suicide bombing in the Negev town of Dimona which killed one woman and wounded at least 11 people, but there was no formal indication that the Gaza incident was in retaliation for the blast.

The PRC has fired hundreds of rockets into southern Israel, frequently sparking IAF strike and military reprisals. The group, which has close ties to the ruling Islamic militant group Hamas, said Qarmout had previously escaped four other Israeli attempts to kill him.

The IDF confirmed it had attacked a PRC activist.

Dr. Moaiya Hassanain, a Health Ministry official in Gaza, said two other
people were wounded in the airstrike in Beit Lahiya, a town frequently used by Palestinian militants to fire rockets into Israel.

IDF commandos kill two Jihad gunmen.

Earlier on Monday, IDF commandos early Monday killed two Islamic Jihad gunmen and seriously wounded a third during a raid on the West Bank town of Qabatiya, south of Jenin.

The IDF special forces killed the gunmen in an exchange of fire which developed during an arrest operation for wanted militants in the town.

The Islamic Jihad men killed were named as Amar Zakarna, 20, and Ahmed Abu-Zaid, 32.

IDF troops found rifles and ammunition on the bodies of the militants.

The IDF arrested a total of ten wanted Palestinians across the West Bank overnight.

Some two weeks ago, IDF soldiers killed senior Islamic Jihad militant Walid Obaydi, 45, in a gun battle in Qabatiya. Obaydi was the leader of the group's military wing for the northern West Bank.

The Shin Bet and the IDF attribute a series of terror attacks to Obaydi, who had been on the run for a number of years. He is believed responsible for the April 2006 suicide bombing in the old Tel Aviv Central Bus Station that killed 11 civilians.

Two Qassams fired at Israel

Meanwhile, Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip fired four Qassam rockets at Israel on Monday morning, Army Radio reported.

The areas struck by the rockets were not located, although an explosion was heard in the region of the Sha'ar Hanegev communities.

The other rockets hit open fields in the Negev.

None of Qassams caused casualties or damage to property.
